Regent Seven Seas Cruise Specialist
Hi, my name is Aija, it’s pronounced like “hiya” but without the “h” sound. It’s a Latvian name, my parents were first generation Latvian Canadian and although I was born in Toronto, I can’t help but wonder if my European heritage somehow spurred me on to travel. While I fell in love with cruising, my travel journey started some years ago as a series of chance encounters made possible through travel, paving the way for some of the most significant experiences of my life.
An invitation to a wedding in Sweden led to me attending college in Norway, this despite not speaking a word of Norwegian! I was fully immersed in Norwegian culture, living in the seaside town of Melbu and enjoying first-hand, the great beauty of the fjords, the midnight sun in summer, or the northern lights during winter’s dark, I was warmly welcomed by the people and destinations of Scandinavia. It was also during this time that the floodgates were opened on my passion for culinary arts. It perhaps started with everyday baking, but I’m sure the exquisite taste of fresh caught halibut really helped!
Travel introduced me to my first husband during a vacation to Florida, we went on to be married and worked together in our own retail business. He passed after 13 years of marriage and although I became a widow, I stayed in the US and spent more than 25 years between Florida and the western regions of Washington State. I continued to work the retail business but also closely with the hotel industry, returning finally to Canada in 2009 to help with my elderly mother. I have since remarried, now to a man passionately interested in European architecture, and we return to Europe as often as we can. We cruise with luxury and inclusive cruise lines such as Regent Seven Seas or Crystal Cruises, it takes the stress out of the trip and allows us to better enjoy our time together on vacation.
During the last year alone I’ve been on a number of great cruise itineraries. Twice sailing with Regent on both the Regent Explorer and the Regent Mariner, a river cruise on the luxurious Crystal Mozart from Crystal Cruises, and even the Hawaiian Islands on board Norwegian’s Pride of America. I’m already booked for the inaugural season of the all-new Regent Splendor, I can’t tell you how excited I am to sail with her female captain next June! If you’re interested in the truly pampered experience of an all-inclusive cruise vacation, look no further. I’ve not only been on board but I’m also a qualified Regent Seven Seas specialist and I love to chat cruising!
