For whatever reason, you haven't got a travel partner or you just don't want one.
In today's travel market, that shouldn't be a limiting factor to your next adventure or luxury travel experience.
Consider how popular the segment of the industry is currently, and the explosive rate at which it has been growing. You will likely see more options in future as the industry adapts to the demands of its clientele.
24% of the market in 2015
Further, despite the ever increasing access to information and countless booking portals now saturating the internet, those who did venture out on their own are increasingly seeking arranged tours - more than double the earlier representation, from 21% to an incredible 46%.
But how did they all finance their ghost roommate?
We'll share some distinct possibilities here and further below, but the list grows and changes regularly. We suggest you follow your travel dream but seek to make the informed choices that will see you get better value.
As mentioned in the video, there are growing opportunities among cruise companies, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines both offer interesting options in their studio staterooms on select ships.
River cruise promotions regularly occur, but you'll likely want to subscribe to a service that notifies you of the opportunity in most instances - they sometimes treat the stock almost like distressed inventory.
For example, AmaWaterways regularly features no single supplement promotions to destinations in France's popular wine growing regions or more adventurous journeys, such as the Mekong in Southeast Asia.
Family and learning leader, Tauck Tours offers a full suite of Category 1 Cabins for their entire European river cruise lineup.
We have also seen almost unbeatable offers for those travelling on their own, from lesser known companies such as Pandaw River Cruises. Pandaw in particular has an interesting revival project in which they've rejuvenated the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company of former Burma.
There are a great number of land tour itineraries available
Like river cruising, there are plenty of irregular opportunities to score a land tour without being stung with the additional cost.
Plenty of operators, including Tauck, On The Go Tours, or Toronto's own G Adventures offer a heavily discounted single rate for many of their itineraries - you'll need to inquire and confirm though as there can be restrictions and exclusions, particularly surrounding holiday trips.
You might be travelling solo, but will you get your own room?
Bear in mind that the great rates you get with an arranged tour are a result of heavy contracting and negotiations, this can include revenues reliant on a minimum number of participants.
Sometimes avoiding the supplemental fee can mean sharing a room, partnering with another tour participant of the same-sex.
Obviously this is less appealing to some people, so be sure to confirm the requirements and make a balanced decision so you can achieve your travel while respecting your budget.
For those comfortable with the idea, we view this as an excellent way to meet like-minded people and perhaps a new travel companion for future!
