Our good friends at Bitterleaf Teas hand-selected this unique tea for us to help our Explorer community enjoy an easy to brew black tea from China's rural Yunnan province.
We also like that it comes in a really cool collector's tin!
The tea itself holds a rather incredible story. Leaves hand plucked from what is known as a wild, untended "old tree", likely more than 100 years of age. We've been sworn to secrecty over the precise location of the tree of origin, but we know the leaves were picked this spring, just before April 8th.
The leaves themselves may be stored for up to 2 years, after which time the quality is expected to degrade. The pros over at Bitterleaf recommend a slightly reduced boil temperature of about 80-85 degrees centrigrade in order to better bring out the crisp, fruit flavours of this plum black tea.
This is not your standard tea, it's a chorus of fragrance and flavour, and a talking point about your own story of China.
