San Cristobal Island
Things to do in
The easternmost island of the Galapagos hosted the first landing of Charles Darwin and today hosts a population of more than 6,000. It is also home to the capital of the Galapagos archipelago, Puerto Barquerizo Moreno.
Populations of sea birds, sea lions, marine iguanas, and even the giant tortoise live on the island. A great site for viewing wildlife exists at Punta Pitt, while the only freshwater lake in the entirety of the Galapagos exists, El Junco.
Although San Cristobal has an airport, your best bet for visiting the island is by cruise itinerary.
