Things to do in
Towns & Cities
While there are no "ugly" villages of Santorini, Oia (sometimes pronounced, "ee-a") provides some of the most breathtaking views. Blue-domed churches, crisp white plastering, winding stairways and paths, and the occasional sprig of green or bright flowers, it all really brings together a fantasy landscape and the photographer's dream destination!
We truly enjoyed Oia, but the pathways are winding and narrow. It's not so popular during peak times of day or high season as to be suffocating, but it does get busy. Maybe plan for a stay in May or October to best enjoy the view.
Arrive via Santorini Thera Airport (JTR) in Thera and transfer to Oia over roughly 30-45 minutes of travel time.
Local public transport is available, with the hub at Thera. Private vehicle charter or rental is also available. An international driver's licence and appropriate endorsements are required for private rental.
The new port and funicular cable car serving cruise ship tender from Thera is nearest Oia, while the old port and ferry terminal further south is also an option.
