Catching up with @Gene this week, we explored his memories of Paris and the images conjured up in his mind's eye when he hears certain tunes & melodies; bringing him back to the scene of a bustling Parisian cafe during an earlier visit.
During the last two weeks, we've been exploring similar themes of virtual tours and the types of senses which trigger great travel memories. For me, it's often the smell of the sea or certain dishes, occasionally an image or the atmosphere of a destination which is brought to mind while I'm doing something very, very ordinary.
That's part of the magic of memory, sure. But it's also the special place in memory where travel fits in. The ability to be transported back to a different time or place with only slightly overlapping experiences to elicit those memories.
Now I just need to find a place to get mangosteen so I can be transported back to Southeast Asia haha
