Bristol is the largest city of England's West Country and a once-vital maritime region of prosperity. At first glance of the map, Bristol appears to be a convenient gateway to the West or into Wales from London, or as a stepping stone into The Cotswolds.
We're a glass half-full kind of business, but there are really very few reasons to recommend a visit to Bristol for international visitors unless you're exploring a personal family history or attending an event. Try Bath or any of the small towns within a stone's throw.
Planning your trip
Some of the most appealing attractions are centered around the waterfront or high on the hilltops of Clifton. If you're traveling with children and have a day to yourselves in Bristol, consider the Bristol Zoo.
When you should go
Bristol is most appealing during the late spring and summer months, when you'll have the best chance of blue skies and a stroll at the water's edge.
