The name Tam Coc refers to the three caves which are found along the river's course in this picturesque area of Vietnam. There are attractions to see and enjoy on foot, while boating a traditional sampan down the river is a highlight.
In many respects, the landscapes resemble Ha Long Bay. For that reason Tam Coc attracts tourists seeking those iconic karst landscapes of limestone trimmed with bright green foliage. Best enjoyed floating down the river while someone else paddles!
Planning your trip
Absolutely an experience best enjoyed by boat. Look for options of about 2-3 hours. Slow and steady, it's a relaxing experience.
When you should go
The waterways here host visitors throughout the year, with visitors catching the most vibrant greenery during the rice planting seasons. There are two main harvest periods, May through July and September through October.
You may find the weather most comfortable in February and March, warm but not too hot.
