To the east, it lies the bay next to the port of Sami. Antissamos is a big pebble beach with green waves that resemble the scenery around the bay, which includes green hills and mountains filled with oaks and cypresses. The azure water meets the equally green southern portion of Ithaca on the opposite side - the two islands are so close that it's difficult to tell them apart!
Antissamos was the site for some of the most crucial and impressive moments in the Hollywood film "Captain Corelli's Mandolin," which has been shot in Kefalonia in the summer of 2000 and shown the following year in cinemas all over the world. The entire area of Sami was subsequently transformed into a massive set for transporting the actors to Kefalonia in 1943, the scene for the film. Captain Corelli's camp was placed on Antissamos, with the explosion scene providing one of the most dramatic effects.
