This photo popped up there other day and reminded me of the super fun and traditioal hat I picked up while in Turkey. I ended up giving it to my brother as he’s a big fan of hats.
Got me thinking whats my favorite vacation souvenir I’ve picked up over the years. Call me simple but I love picking up postcards with beautiful photos.
Would love to hear what you have picked up and where?!
Photos at the Great Theater, Turkey and in the market where we found the winning hat.
Hands down, the best souvenir I ever purchased was during a stop in Cairo during a trip to Egypt in 2011.
While every shopkeeper had something they wanted me to try, I took the recommendation of a local and set off down a tiny sidestreet for some essential oils and settled on a set of 4 or 5 vials.
Think essence of oil collected from 1,000 pressed jasmine flowers or an oil-based blend of papyrus leaf and some other exotic fragrance I can no longer remember!
The containers themselves were so interestingly decorated I had a visit to the glass blower's workshop who made the vials and other incredible items such as elephant-shaped glass diffusers to heat the oils in a room.
I'm sad to say that my packing left something to be desired and the elephant diffuser did not fully survive the journey home.
However!
Those oils were worth every penny and their incredible concentration meant only ever using a minute amount. More than a decade later I still have a small amount of my two favorite scents.
