@Gene is headed to Washington DC later this week, he and I had a quick catch up to chat through our own experiences in past as this will be his third such visit to America's Capitol and I enjoyed a great long weekend myself there with my wife during the summer of 2018.
Some renovations to various monuments and museums have been completed during the last 12 months or so, and Gene's partner, Judy, has never before been! One of the highlights of travel, in my mind, is revisiting an old favourite to share new experiences with loved ones.
But while there are some obvious highlights, there's only so much time; the immense collections of the world-renown Smithsonian museums alone could take a week or more to enjoy. I think Gene will be headed to the Arlington National Cemetery and some military or political highlights - alongside a surprisingly diverse set of dining options.
Items of note include the need for an advanced application when visiting the White House, but what sort of recommendations would you share from your own time in DC?
We're excited about our trip to DC this weekend. It's been a few years and I'm looking forward to visiting a few other Smithsonian museums I missed on our last trip, all free!! and of course the food trucks @Shy
Just a quick follow up to our trip to DC in March. We had a great time touring the city and visiting the National Mall area. I did have to explain to my spouse beforehand that it is not a shopping mall! The area was beautiful as the Cherry Blossoms were in early bloom and the food trucks were lined up on both sides of the median of the Mall. There was literally every time of hand food you could think of. I went for the Greek Gyro while Judy partook in her first authentic Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. Unfortunately we didn't have a lot of time as we were in DC for a wedding, or we would have gone back for dinner.
