For me, it was Fatboy Slim at the Warehouse in Toronto in 1999.
I actually did have a mobile phone at the time, but we're talking a Nokia 5190 brick with snake - no fancy camera phone haha
So, only great memories at this time - especially since both the Warehouse and the Guvernment closed and are now condos on Queen's Quay.
My first concert was The Wiggles (not the kids show, but an adult comedy band) in Bordeaux France. I was given tickets and was barely able to keep up with the satirical lyrics of the group.
Now a days I try to go to as many live events as I can in Toronto. There are so many small venues with great music for affordable ticket prices.
Are there any destinations you can suggest with some great live music? First thought that comes to mind are Irish Pubs...
Haha oh wow, not the children's entertainment!?! They're French, I'm assuming?
Yesss! Ireland is definitely the place to be if you want a bit of a jig with your delicious pint. I'm sure @Gene has a bit more to elaborate here - we discussed after his trip to Ireland earlier in 2019.
A surprising recommendation for those who like live music:
Thailand.
I think I've been to Thailand maybe 5 or 6 times now and it's really hard to escape a live band, not just karaoke. Although there's plenty of karaoke there too if you want it.
But they seem to really love classic rock and the Cranberries for some reason too! And the bands are typically funky, with some talented young people.
My first concert was the Beach Boys. I was about 14 and saw them at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in New York State. Went with three other buddies. We were all in our High School Band and so had a real musical ear. Those guys sure could harmonize. It was also one of the last shows that Dennis Wilson (drummer) performed in as he died a few years later. It was a memorable show.
The Beach Boys, how cool! Although I might first have asked which instrument you played before stating "cool" haha!
