One of the most iconic landmarks of London, if a little brighter and more modern than some of its fellow sights of the Square Mile. Although the origins of the name are said to stretch back to the early 1600s, the circus as we see it today was shaped more by the fountain (circa 1893) and the Coca-Cola billboard (circa 1955).
There are few spaces in London which feature such bright colors, even by day. Pretty much any direction you look is an iconic view of the city, you'll conveniently hop onward to Buckingham Palace, Leicester Square, Shaftsbury Avenue, Carnaby and Bond Streets for shopping, and much more.

The best experiences to try in the immediate vicinity of Piccadilly Circus are the theater shows of London's famous West End, with a number of incredible plays and musicals to enjoy only steps away down Shaftsbury Avenue.
When you should go
It's busy throughout the day, with traffic being rather relentless both on the streets which flow around the circus itself and the pedestrianized spaces surrounding the fountain. The view's arguably the best by night.
It's an outdoor landmark, but there are plenty of tourist traps nearby to escape the rain if you do visit on a bad weather day.
