Once the capital of Czechoslovakia, today the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague is steeped in history as everything from Bohemian art to fire and modern politics have molded the city's past and helped shape its modern face.
You'll come to Prague for the architecture, for its countless spires and red brick rooftops. You'll leave with a smile on your face thanks to the rich food (and drink) on offer to keep you fueled up for your trip back through time.
Planning your trip
In addition to medieval bridges and fairytale castles, make sure you check out the Old Town. Try to time your stop at the Astronomical Clock for the top of the hour.
When you should go
For many visitors the warmer summer months are the most appealing, however that can also mean crowds. Aim off for a May or September visit for the best chance to enjoy pleasant weather with fewer tourists. Prague and much of the Czech Republic offer a slightly longer period to enjoy the Christmas market season, too, with some markets open through the first week of January.
